Daniels Scores Career High in ODAC Loss to Shenandoah
SALEM – Andrew Daniels scored a career-high 28 points in Roanoke men's basketball's loss to Shenandoah University on Saturday.  The Maroons sit at .500 with a record of 6-6, with a 0-4 mark in conference play, while Shenandoah is 9-3, 1-3 in the ODAC.
 
Daniels put up 17 of his 28 points in the second half in Roanoke's loss to Shenandoah.  He shot 10-18 from the field and 6-8 from the free throw line.  Cameron Smith tallied 10 points for the Maroons, notching a double double with 12 rebounds.  Daniel Eacho followed with 11 rebounds and was two points shy of his seventh double double of the season. 
 
The opening moments of the first half saw two ties and four lead changes, as Roanoke jumped out to an 11-8 lead, behind five points from Andrew Daniels.  Cameron Smith extended the lead to five at the 14:41 mark with a layup.  By the 8:08 mark, The Hornets had tied the game at 20-20 after a free throw from Xavier Alston.  The next three minutes saw two ties and two lead changes as Smith hit a layup with 5:45 on the clock to give Ronaoke a 24-23 lead. 
 
The lead continued to change over the next three minutes as Walt Moody of Shenandoah knocked down a trey with 2:00 to play in the half, tying the game at 31-31.  Roanoke went on a 5-0 run in the next minute, with two points from Daniels, along with a three pointer from John Fitchett.  The Hornets' Jared Carithers hit a three pointer to close out the half, as Roanoke entered the locker room with a 36-34 lead.
 
The Hornets tied the game up immediately at 36-36 in the second half.  Andrew Daniels and Jared Carithers traded baskets over the next three minutes, as the game was still tied, this time at 40-40 with 16:34 to play.  Ethan Humphries knotted the game up again at 43-43 a minute later after matching a Carithers trey.  Through the 12:04 mark, the Hornets were on a 10-3 run, taking a 53-46 lead.  Daniels and Eacho combined for six points over the next two minutes, bringing the Maroons back within three.
 
The Hornets were able to hold off the Maroons from reclaiming the lead, despite Roanoke pulling back within two with 6:40 to play.  In the final five minutes, Shenandoah outscored the Maroons 17-5, as Roanoke fell at home in ODAC play, 82-67.
 
Shenandoah outshot the Maroons 46.9 to 41.9 percent from the field, while holding a nearly identical mark from behind the arc, as the Hornets led slightly, 36 to 35 percent.  Shenandoah also got the rebounding advantage, pulling down 44 to Roanoke's 37.
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, January 15th as they take on Lynchburg College on the road.  That contest is slated for a 7:00 PM start.
