Men's Basketball Falls in ODAC Contest to Bridgewater on Saturday
BRIDGEWATER – The Roanoke College men's basketball team fell in ODAC competition to Bridgewater College on Saturday, 78-64.
 
Julian Ramirez led the Maroons in scoring, netting 16 points during today's game.  This is the second consecutive game that Ramirez has scored 16 points, scoring as many in the Lynchburg game on January 15th.  He also finished with six rebounds, three steals and two assists.  Andrew Daniels also scored in double figures, tallying 12 points, shooting 5-9 from the field.  Daniel Eacho finished the contest with nine points and nine rebounds.  Cameron Smith pulled down seven rebounds, the second most on the team in the afternoon.
 
Roanoke took its first lead of the game at the 15:28 mark as Ramirez hit a jumper, putting the Maroons ahead 6-4.  The two teams scored back and forth over the next series of possessions until Roanoke took a lengthened lead at 12:58 as Ethan Humphries hit a jumper for a 10-8 lead.  Roanoke continued to lead through the 9:00 minute mark, when Seth Bradley hit a three pointer to put the Maroons ahead by four, 21-17.  With a layup from Daniels, a jumper from Eacho and a free throw, Roanoke took its largest lead of the game of seven points, 26-19, with 6:03.
 
Bridgewater hit three consecutive baskets over the next three minutes, cutting Roanoke's lead to one, 26-25.  After Eacho hit a free throw, Bridgewater closed out the half with five consecutive baskets, including a three-pointer from Ronnie Thomas.  At halftime, the Maroons trailed to Bridgewater, 36-27.
 
Andrew Daniels scored Roanoke's first six points of the second half, while Ramirez dropped in a layup to bring Roanoke back within four, 38-34, with two minutes elapsed.  The Eagles hit two three pointers and a layup over the next two minutes, growing its lead to 12, 46-34.  Starting at the 14:28 mark, the Eagles went on a 12-4 run, taking a 60-40 advantage.  Roanoke scored its next four points with a free throw from Ramirez and an old-fashioned three point play from Daniels.
 
With 4:19 to play, The Maroons went on a 7-0 run of its own, with three points from Dairus Ford and two each from Ramirez and Killian Connely.  With 2:02 to play, the Maroons trailed by 17, 70-53.  Roanoke closed out the contest with a jumper from Alexander Weant and a layup from Connelly, as the Maroons fell 76-57 to Bridgewater.
 
Roanoke shot 36.2 percent from the field, and outshot Bridgewater 70 to 41.2 percent from the free throw line.  The Maroons finished the contest with 41 rebounds, 10 points off turnovers and 28 points in the paint.
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, January 22nd, as Emory & Henry comes to compete in Bast Gymnasium.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
