Men's Basketball Drops ODAC Contest to Randolph-Macon on Saturday
SALEM – The Roanoke College men's basketball team battled Randolph-Macon to the final minutes, as the Maroons fell 70-57 on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroons now have a record of 7-9; 1-7 in ODAC play, while the Yellow Jackets are now 13-4; 7-1 in the conference.
 
Daniel Eacho continues to be the leading scorer for the Maroons, putting up 19 points in today's game.  He shot 7-11 from the field, as well as pulling down a team high six rebounds.  He is averaging 17.4 points per game and ranks third in the ODAC in scoring.  He also is second in the ODAC in rebounding with 9.8 rebounds per game.
 
Three different Maroons scored in Roanoke's opening 9-4 run, as Eacho had a pair of jumpers and Julian Ramirez knocked down a trey in the first three minutes of the game.  The Yellow Jackets took the next minute to pull back within two, 11-9, but baskets by Eacho and Ramirez extended the Maroons lead back to six 15-9.  With 8:38 to play in the half, Evan Jackson hit a jumper for Randolph-Macon tying the game at 17-17. 
 
The two teams battled back and forth over the next couple of minutes, seeing the game tied twice before Roanoke pulled ahead 23-21 with 4:45 to play.  Randolph-Macon's Connor Sullivan hit a pair of free throws with a minute left to take the 28-27 advantage.  The Yellow Jackets scored twice more in the final moments, leaving the first half behind with a 31-27 lead.
 
Randolph-Macon's John Hassell hit a layup in the beginning of the second half to give the Yellow Jackets a six point lead to start the period.  Roanoke pulled back within one just a minute later with baskets from Eacho and Cameron Smith.  The Yellow Jackets spent the next six minutes going on a 10-0 run that was capped by a two-pointer from Trent Walker.  However Seth Bradley scored five consecutive points to get the Maroons back within six, 43-37 with 11:45 to play. 
 
The Maroons continued to claw back into the contest, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 16-10 over the next seven minutes, tying the game again at 53-53 with 4:41 on the clock.  During that time, Eacho scored eight of the Maroons points, with baskets also by Daniels and Marcus Scott.  A Scott free throw at 4:14 gave the Roanoke its first lead of the second half of 54-53.  However, down the stretch, the Yellow Jackets held Roanoke to just three more points, as the Maroons fell 70-57 in the ODAC contest.
 
Julian Ramirez also finished in double-digits for the Maroons scoring 11 points in the effort.  He shot 5-8 from the field and dished out a team high four assists.  He also had Roanoke's two lone blocks of the afternoon.  Andrew Daniels and Seth Bradley each finished with seven points apiece.  Cameron Smith and Ramirez were second on the squad in rebounds, pulling down four boards each.
 
The Maroons outshot Randolph-Macon from the field, 47.1 to 42.9 percent.  Roanoke also held Randolph-Macon scoreless from behind the arc, with the Yellow Jackets going 0-8 from three point land.  Randolph-Macon led in rebounds on the day 45-34, while Roanoke won the assist battle, 14-10.
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, January 29th as they play host to Washington & Lee in the Bast Center.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
