Maroons Defeat Generals, 69-61 in Wednesday's ODAC Rematch
SALEM – The Roanoke College men's basketball team defeated Washington and Lee University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening, 69-62.  The Maroons now have a record of 8-9, 2-7 in ODAC play, while the Generals are now 5-13, 2-7 in the ODAC.

The Maroons previously played Washington and Lee on November 30th, falling to the Generals 87-84 on a last second three-pointer in overtime.  The Maroons hold an all-time 76-43 advantage over the Generals in a series that goes all the way back to the 1912-13 season.
 
Daniel Eacho finished the contest with 24 points, shooting 10-17 from the field.  With the 24 points, he has crossed 300 points for the season, and is just 33 points from surpassing his 2012-13 scoring total (334).  Eacho also pulled down 14 rebounds, which brings his season average to 10 rebounds per game.  With that total, he ranks second in the ODAC in rebounds, as well as third in the conference in points per game (17.8).
 
Andrew Daniels also scored in double digits for the Maroons, netting 18 points, including a 9-12 mark from the free throw line.  He is the second leading scorer on the squad with 14.6 points per game.  Daniels scoring average ranks him ninth in the conference in points per game.  Julian Ramirez and Ethan Humphries each dished out a team high four assists.  Ramirez leads the ODAC in assists per game (5.4) as well as being ranked 26th in the NCAA Division III for the same category.
 
The Generals started the first half on a 6-2 run, knocking down a pair of threes from Darren Douglas and Patrick O'Connor.  The Maroons closed the gap over the next three minutes, as Humphries, Daniels and Eacho each hit baskets to tie the game at 8-8.  Through the 9:47 mark the contest saw three consecutive ties, as the Maroons and Generals went back and forth, tying it up at 14-14.  Ramirez hit a pair of free throws to give Roanoke a two-point, 16-14 lead with 9:16 to play. 
 
Over the next five minutes, Washington and Lee proceeded to go on a 10-0 run, which included five points from Clay McLean.  The Maroons closed the first half on an 8-0 run of its own, which saw baskets from Cameron Smith, Alexander Weant, Ramirez and Andrews, as the Maroons and Generals finished the first 20 tied at 24-24.
 
The second half saw six lead changes in the first four minutes as the teams battled back and forth.  With 16:08 to play, Roanoke had taken the lead, 33-31.  Eacho scored the next six points for the Maroons over a two-minute span, as the Maroons lead grew to three, 39-36.  John Fitchett scored the next four points for Roanoke as the advantage now stood at six points, 43-37.  When the Generals pulled within three a few minutes later, Fitchett knocked down a trey to build the lead back to six.
 
Starting at 8:54, Washington and Lee knocked down a pair of three pointers, bringing the team's deficit back to two, 49-47 with 8:07 to play.  The Maroons went on to rattle off a 10-0 run, which included four points from Fitchett, four from Eacho and two from Daniels.  With 2:46 on the clock, Roanoke had its largest lead of the game, an 11-point 59-48 advantage.  Washington and Lee continued to foul in the final minutes of the game, getting as close as six points, but Roanoke's lead held strong as the Maroons defeated the Generals 69-62.
 
The Maroons outrebounded Washington and Lee 45-21 on the night, a rebound margin of 24 in favor of Roanoke.  This is the largest rebounding margin the Maroons have had this season, beating the Maroons previous best of 19 from the Frostburg State game on December 30th.  The Maroons also outshot the Generals 45.5 to 42.0 percent from the field.  Roanoke led in assists 12-9, as well as second chance points 20-0.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, February 1st as they travel to Harrisonburg to take on Eastern Mennonite University.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
