Eacho Nets Career-High as Hornets Slip Past Maroons in Double Overtime Thriller
SALEM – The Roanoke College men's basketball team battled Lynchburg College into two overtime periods, but were narrowly edged by the Hornets, 103-101 in Wednesday's ODAC contest.  The Maroons now have a record of 7-11, 2-7 in ODAC play, while the Hornets are 11-7, 4-5 in the ODAC.

Daniel Eacho set a career-high in scoring on Wednesday night, putting away 37 points in the double-overtime thriller.  Eacho was the 25th highest all-time scorer in Roanoke College's history entering the contest, and moved up two spots with 1,206 career points.  Eacho passed Melvin Felix '11 (1,173) and Mike Baker '81 (1,188) with his 37 points and now is nine points shy of passing Shane Abernathy '85 (1,214).  Eacho also joins the likes of Morris Cregger (Feb. 16, 1963) and Reggie Thomas (February 9, 1985) who have both scored 37 points in a game wearing the Maroon jersey.  Eacho finished the game with a double-double that included 10 rebounds.  He went 9-11 from the free throw line, with two assists as well.

Andrew Daniels put up 21 points to rank second on the squad on Saturday.  He was 7-14 from the field, including a 5-8 mark from behind the arc.  He had five rebounds and four assists.  Seth Bradley broke out in the contest with two big three-pointers in his night with 14 points and nine rebounds.  Julian Ramirez also finished in double-figures, netting 13 points with seven rebounds and eight assists.

With eight minutes remaining in the first half, Roanoke trailed by eight points, 30-22, but started to quickly charge back.  The Maroons tied the game up at 39-39 after an old-fashioned three point play by Daniel Eacho at 3:09 in the half.  Eacho made the next six points for the Maroons as Roanoke now led 45-42 with 1:40 in the half.  Roanoke ended the first period with a 47-44 lead.

The contest saw 16 lead changes, most of which came in the second half.  With five minutes to play, Roanoke trailed 73-70.  After Cameron Smith hit a jumper, Daniels followed with a three-pointer to tie the game at 75-75 with four minutes to play.  Eacho answered each of Lynchburg's baskets, tying the game at 77 and 79, eventually taking an 80-79 lead with 2:34 to play.  Daniels hit a three to go ahead by four, but Zack Burnett answered to keep the Hornets within one.  Lynchburg's Omar Kept knocked down a free throw with 22 seconds to play in regulation to tie the game at 83-83 and send the game to overtime.

The Hornets went up by as many as five in the first overtime period, with a three by Daniel Rowe and a jumper by Arnold to take a 90-85 lead.  Andrew Daniels knocked down another three pointer, to get the Maroons back within two points.  After a Lynchburg free throw, Eacho scored Roanoke's next two baskets, the last coming at the 1:16 mark to take a 92-91 lead.  Arnold was fouled with 48 seconds left, and made the front end of a one and one to tie the game at 92 apiece.  Both teams missed one final opportunity to win the contest, sending the game into a second overtime period.

Eacho hit the first basket of the overtime, taking a quick two point lead.  Lynchburg's Kemp swiftly answered with a layup to tie the game again, this time at 94-94 with 4:00 to play.  Eacho and Ramirez combined for three points, but Burnett hit a free throw followed by an Arnold three-pointer at the 58 second mark to give Lynchburg a 98-97 lead.  A Lynchburg foul put Eacho at the line, who put away both free throws to reclaim the lead for the Maroons 99-98.  With 44 seconds left, Arnold tacked on two more free throws of his own to take a Lynchburg 100-99 advantage.  Carter Wright hit two free throws of his own after another Lynchburg foul, as Roanoke now led 101-100.  Lynchburg's Arnold nestled away a jump shot with 14 seconds left, swapping the lead one final time.  Arnold tacked on a free throw with seven seconds left, and the Maroons couldn't get a shot off in the final moments, as Lynchburg picked up the 103-101 win in Bast.

Austen Arnold tallied 33 points for the Hornets with a 10-21 game, hitting 5-11 from behind the arc.  Zack Burnett went 11-22 for 27 points with nine rebounds, trying Alex Graves for a team-high in boards.  Burnett, Lyndon White and Daniel Rowe led the team with three assists each.

Roanoke led the Hornets in nearly every statistical category on the evening, as Roanoke shot 50.7 percent from the field to Lynchburg's 44.0.  This was the Maroons' second consecutive game shooting over 50 percent from the field and fifth game overall.  Roanoke also led in three pointers (45.0 to 39.3), and free throws (74.1 to 60.0).  The Maroons had a narrow advantage in rebounds, 47-46, but led in assists 21-16.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, January 31 as they travel to Virginia Beach to take on the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan.  That contest is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.
