Roanoke Tops Ferrum 80-65 on Tuesday in Non-Conference Action
SALEM – The Roanoke College men's basketball team closed its final home game of 2014 with a victory over Ferrum College on Tuesday evening, 80-65.  The Maroons now sit with a record of 5-2, while the panthers are 4-5 on the year.

Daniel Eacho led the Maroons in scoring for the first time since he hit a career high 34 points on November 22nd.  Eacho notched 15 points in the victory over the Panthers, while also topping the team in rebounds with nine.  Three other Maroons finished in double-figures, led by Carter Wright and Andrew Daniels, who tied with 12 points on the evening.  Wright shot 4-8 from the field, with a 2-3 mark from behind the arc.  He also tallied three steals and two assists.  Daniels finished with two three-pointers and a perfect 4-4 mark from the line.  Julian Ramirez nearly had a double-double in points and assists, tallying 10 points and dishing out eight rebounds.

The Maroons and Panthers traded the lead back and forth over the first four minutes, with Rashawn Speas scoring eight of the Panthers' first 10 points of the night.  The Maroons spent the next seven minutes going on a 19-1 run, led by Carter Wright with seven points.  Seth Bradley and Wright each hit three-pointers during the streak that gave Roanoke a 17 point, 28-11 advantage.  Roanoke built its lead to as many as 22 points after a Daniels three and Eacho layup with 3:39 to play in the first half, going ahead 41-19.  At the half, Roanoke led by 19, 47-28 over Ferrum.

The Panthers turned the contest around on the Maroons at the start of the second half, outscoring Roanoke 12-5 in the opening two minutes.  In that span, where Ferrum's Marvin Wilson hit two three pointers, Roanoke's lead had been cut to 12 points, 52-40.  Seth Bradley put a stop to the early drought by the Maroons, knocking down a big three pointer, extending the advantage back to 15 points.  Starting at the 14:26 mark, the Panthers went on another run, this time 8-2, getting within nine points for the first time since the first half.  However, that would be the closest the Panthers would come for the remainder of the contest, as Roanoke rattled off 11 straight points, led again by Wright with five.  After the streak, Roanoke led by 20, 72-52 with 7:50 left to play.  The Maroons' double digit advantage was enough to keep Ferrum at Bay, as Roanoke picked up the non-conference victory 80-65 over the Panthers.

Three players from Ferrum scored 10 or more points, and were the only players to score over four points in the contest.  Rashawn Speas led all players with 22 points, going 11-14 from the field.  Speas tied Jamal Pullen for the team high in rebounds with seven apiece.  Pullen, who was named USA South Player of the Week last week, scored 17 points, with seven made baskets from the floor and two steals.  Marvin Wilson was the final player in double-digits, putting up 12 points, making two of the Panthers' three treys on the night.

The Maroons return to action on Friday and Saturday, December 19-20 as they travel down to Daytona Beach, FL to compete in the Daytona Beach Shootout.  Roanoke will face off against Oneonta on Friday at 4:00 PM, while they will take on Marymount on Saturday at 8:00 PM.
