How it Happened:
  • The Maroons were led by Joey Miller with a career-high 24 points and C.J. Miles who had a career-high 17 points off the bench. John Fitchett had 14 points and Eli Sumpter had a career-high 13 points as well.
  • The Maroons made 31-of-64 (48.4%) shots from the field, including nine three-pointers, six of which came in the decisive second-half. The Marlins shot 35.9% from the floor and were 6-of-30 from the three-point line, including 0-for-12 in the second stanza.
  • The Maroons found themselves down by 13 points at 53-40 when Tim Jones converted a layup for VWC with 1:17 to go in the first-half.
  • RC would score the final six points of the half including a tip-in by Miller as time expired to make it 53-46 at the intermission.
  • VWC scored the first bucket of the second half to push its lead back to nine points before a three-pointer by Sumpter sparked a 19-5 run by RC that was capped by a John Caldwell basket to make it 67-60 with 13:35 to play.
  • The Marlins battled back and tied the game at 82 apiece with 3:52 to play. RC took the lead back on a Miles jumper which would be the first two points of a 7-0 run to take control of the game.
  • VWC made just two field goals in the final five minutes of play, while RC made 7-of-8 free-throw attempts in the final 2:31 to ice the game.
  • VWC was led by Khory Moore who had 20 points in the loss.
  • The win is the 12th straight for Roanoke and RC becomes just the fourth ODAC team (Randolph-Macon, Guilford & Eastern Mennonite) since 2009 to beat VWC on its home court.
