The Lead: Virginia Wesleyan's Khory Moore had 31 points, including a free-throw with four seconds left that lifted the Marlins over Roanoke 73-72 on Saturday afternoon in Salem.

How it Happened
  • Roanoke was led by Joey Miller and John Caldwell who each had 14 points in the loss. John Fitchett scored 12 points, while Carter Wright and Cameron Smith each finished with 10 points apiece. The Maroons shot 41.5% from the field, making 22-of-53 attempts, including 5-of-21 from beyond the arc. The 72 is a season low for RC.
  • Virginia Wesleyan also got 12 points from Aaron Sturdifen. Kaelin Poe scored eight points and grabbed 12 rebounds, helping the Marlins to a 51-32 edge on the glass for the game. The Marlins had 25 offensive rebounds that led to 18 second-chance points.
  • The Maroons trailed 38-26 after a Moore three-pointer with 3:35 to go in the half. From there, RC scored eight of the final 10 points to cut the VWC lead to 40-34 at the intermission.
  • RC remained in striking distance and was able to take its first lead on a John Fitchett bucket with just under 14 minutes to play in the game.
  • Roanoke found itself down 72-66 with 1:45 to play before Joey Miller scored six straight points, tying the game at 72 with 28 seconds to go on a three-point play.
  • Moore was fouled on VWC's ensuing possession and made the first-throw. Miller collected the ball off the miss of the second free-throw but was not able to get a potential game-winning shot off as time expired.
