Caldwell Named ODAC Player of the Week

FORREST, Va. - Sophomore forward John Caldwell was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. This marks for the first player of the week honor for Caldwell and the Maroons in the 2016-17 season. 

Caldwell helped the Maroons to a 1-1 showing at the Swarthmore Garnet Holiday Tournament and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team by averaging 24.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, including his first two double-doubles of the season.

He was 10-of-13 from the field including 5-of-7 from deep on the way to 28 points in RC's 89-76 win over Averett on Saturday. He pulled down 10 rebounds and chipped in two assists along with two blocked shots against the Cougars.

He went 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and 7-of-12 overall towards 20 points with a second 10-rebound outing in the 96-86 setback against Rowan in the tournament championship Sunday afternoon.

For the season, Caldwell is tied for second in the ODAC in scoring average (18.8) and sixth in overall points scored (150). He's third in three-pointers made (22), fifth in field goals made (53), and seventh in three-point percentage (47.8%).

Roanoke returns to action after the holiday break as it hosts the Cregger Tournament Dec. 30-31 in Salem, Va. The Maroons face the Coast Guard on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
