The Lead: Roanoke College faced Dubuque in the second of back-to-back games in Fort Lauderdale. The Spartans used a run of five straight three-pointers to build an 18-point, second half lead. The Maroons cut the deficit to nine heading into the final five minutes of play. A trio of made free throws got the Maroons to within eight, but that was as close as they could get as Roanoke fell, 75-67, for just the second time this season.

How it Happened:

  • Kasey Draper hit a three-pointer to start the scoring. After the score was tied at 10-10, a Joshua McClary jump shot capped a 9-3 run that would see the Maroons with a 19-13 advantage with 9:15 to play in the first half.
  • Back-to-back 3-pointers would see the Spartans back in front, 22-20, but Draper tied it with a jump shot at the 4:00 mark, 25-25.
  • An 11-5 finish to the first half would see Dubuque holding a 36-30 lead at the break.
  • Efosa U-Edosomwan made the score 40-34 with 18:20 left to play. Over the next three minutes, the Spartans used a 15-4 run to break open the game. All 15 points came on shots from behind the arch and the Roanoke deficit was 55-38.
  • Roanoke would chip away at the lead and after a Tripp Greene three and another Draper hoop, the score was 65-56 with just over five minutes remaining.
  • With 2:26 to play, Zach Rosenthal hit three free throws to get the Maroons to within eight, but that was as close as they would get, falling to the Saprtans by the final of 75-67.
  • Draper registered a double-double with 22 points and 11 boards. U-Edosomwan added 14 while Rosenthal and Justin Kuthan combined for 12 of RC's 20 bench points.

Up next: Roanoke will host the Cregger Invitational in late December. The Maroons will open the holiday tournament with a game against Keene State on the 29th at 2:00pm.
