RC defeated Ferrum 84-60

The Basics
Score:  Roanoke 84 | Ferrum 60
Records: Maroons 10-4 / 2-3 ODAC | Panthers 5-8 / 0-4 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke was finally able to play host to Ferrum on Tuesday night. In a game that was rescheduled twice due to various reasons, the Maroons looked to halt a two-game Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) losing streak against a Panther squad that come in searching for their first ODAC win of the season. Ferrum shot 42% from the 3-point line in a first half that would see the Maroons lead, 33-31, at the break. Roanoke would use a 37-29 edge on the glass and hot second half shooting to pull away for the, 84-60, ODAC victory.

How it Happened:

  • The Panthers would score first but the two teams would combine for four consecutive three-pointers, one each for Tripp Greene and Nick Price, and Ferrum would lead 8-6 in the early stages.
  • After Ferrum pushed their advantage to four, Roanoke used a Kasey Draper free throw and Justin Kuthan hoop to re-take the lead. The Panthers responded and the lead would trade back and forth, five lead changes and three ties, and with 7:30 to play in the first half, the game would be tied at 20-20.
  • Kuthan and Efosa U-Edosomwan combined to spark RC with a 7-0 run to seize control of the game. Ferrum rallied to cut the Roanoke advantage to a single point before the Maroons took a two-point edge into the break.
  • Coming out of the half the score would remain close before Roanoke began to pull away. Eight minutes into the second 20-minutes, a U-Edosomwan layup followed by a Kuthan three-point play would push the Roanoke lead into double digits, 57-45.
  • With just over three and a half minutes on the clock, another 3-ball by Greene pushed the lead over the 20-point mark, 78-56. The Maroons pushed the lead to 24, the largest lead of the night on a Draper layup as Roanoke picked up their first win of the 2022 calendar year.
  • Kuthan paced four Maroons in double-digits with 22 while Draper added 16, U-Edosomwan 15, and Greene with 13. Draper had a team-high eight rebounds with Kuthan grabbing seven and Trent Dawson came off the bench to hand out six assists.

Up next: Roanoke was originally scheduled to make the trip to Lynchburg to face the Hornets tomorrow night. However, the matchup with the University of Lynchburg will be pushed back until Thursday night at 7:00pm.
