  • The Short Story: The Roanoke men's basketball extended its win streak to five games with a 78-55 win over Randolph on Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg. The win sees the Maroons start the ODAC season 2-0. Kasey Draper had a season-high 28 points in the win, one of three Maroons in double-figures on the day.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Roanoke jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead just 1:13 into the game, but Randolph would run it back to 10-10 at 15:41 left in the first half. Another five-point run by the Maroons was once again responded to by the WildCats with a 9-0 run as the home team had a four-point lead with 7:58 left before the intermission.
  • Roanoke tied the score up for the third time in the game at 21-21 at 6:37 thanks to a free throw by Justin Kuthan. The Wildcats made a layup with 6:05 to retake the lead 23-21, but it was the last points they scored in the first half as the Maroons shut down Randolph and held a 32-23 lead at the break.
  • The Maroons scored the first basket of the second half at 18:56 while the WildCats ended their 6:28 scoring drought with a layup at 18:37. The closest Randolph would get within the Maroons was six points at 17:30 with Roanoke leading 34-28.
  • With Roanoke leading 55-48 with 8:42 left in the game, the Maroons extended and kept their lead large, going on a 23-7 run to end the game, claiming their fifth win of the season, 78-55.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Roanoke shot 52.7% from the floor, making 29-of-55 while holding the WildCats to just 33.9% shooting.
  • The Maroons have only allowed two opponents to make 10+ free throws in a game while scoring at least 11 in each of the first six games themselves.
  • In addition to the shooting percentage, Roanoke also led Randolph in free throws (14-8), rebounds (43-30), assists (18-10), points in the paint (36-26), fastbreak points (15-2), and bench points 26-11.
  • In addition to Draper's 28 points, Efosa U-Edosomwan had 15 points and Kuthan finished with 14. The trio scored more points than the entire WildCat team. In total, eight Maroons scored in the game.
