The Short Story: The Roanoke men's basketball team trailed by just four points to the No. 2 team in the country on Saturday afternoon, but a strong second half pushed Randolph-Macon over the Maroons 69-50 in ODAC action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kasey Draper hit a three just 21 seconds into the contest and a Tripp Greene layup at 18:18 gave the Maroons a 5-2. The Yellow Jackets responded with a 7-0 to take the lead. R-MC extended their lead to nine points, 30-21, with just under two and a half minutes left before the break, but the Maroons responded with a 7-2 run to pull back within four points at the intermission. 
  • The Yellow Jackets used a 12-0 run midway through the second half to extend their lead to 16 before the two teams settled in, trading points, and neither team being able to score in the final 1:32 of the game. 

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Greene led all scorers with 17 points. Draper also reached double figures with 13. 
  • Roanoke outshot the Yellow Jackets from beyond the arc making seven three-pointers on 41.2% shooting. The two teams head an identical number of rebounds with 32.
