MAROONS 12TH AT TOUGH GREENSBORO INVITATIONAL

WINSTON-SALEM, NC--The Roanoke College golf team placed 12th at the 2003 Greensboro College Invitational on Tuesday, a tournament that was won by Methodist College, the nation's number-one ranked Division III team. The Maroons had a two-day total of 615, 41 strokes off of Methodist's winning result. Other top finishers included Guilford, LaGrange, Huntingdon, Greensboro, and Ogelthorpe, all of which are ranked in the nation's top 20.

Dusty Throckmorton was Roanoke's top finisher at the two-day event which was held at the Meadowlands Golf Club in Winston-Salem, NC. Throckmorton finished in a tie for 19th place with a two-day total of 148 (77-71). Ogelthorpe's Trent Erb was the medalist with a two-day total of 140 on the par-72, 6,702-yard course. Bryan Cotton was the second lowest Maroon shooter, carding a 149 (72-77), while Geoff Lindsay (79-79-158) was eight strokes behind and tied for 63rd. Gerard Kasza was 76th (82-80-162) and Alan May 79th (80-83-163) to round out the Maroons' scoring.

Roanoke has one remaining fall event on it's schedule. The team will play in the Virginia Division II/III State Championship meet which begins on Monday, October 20th at the Dominion Golf Club.
