GOLF TEAM PLACED FOURTH AT WASHINGTON & LEE

LEXINGTON, VA--After leading after the first day of the 2003 Washington & Lee Buck Leslie Invitational, the Roanoke College golf team shot a 309 on the second day but slipped in the standings to finish fourth at the event which was held at the Lexington Golf and Country Club in Lexington, VA. The Maroons totaled a 615 over the two days and finished six strokes behind overall winner Bridgewater College. The Maroons actually tied for third with Hampden-Sydney but fell to fourth after tiebreaking procedures.

Roanoke's Dusty Throckmorton shot a two-day total of 148 (73-75) and tied for first with a golfer from Hampden-Sydney, but finished second after another tiebreaking procedure. He was tied for second after the first day's round and finished with the second lowest score of the second day's action.

Bryan Cotton was tied for first following action on Monday after shooting a 72, but fell to fifth place in the individual standings after carding an 80 on the par-71 course on Tuesday. Alan May also earned a top-10 finish after rebounding from a Monday score of 78 with a 76 on Tuesday. His 154 was two strokes behind the eighth place finisher.

Geoff Lindsay was Roanoke's fourth low score, recording a 161 after an 83 on Monday and a 78 on Tuesday. Gerard Kasza rounded out the Maroons' scoring for the event with a 172 (85-87).

The Maroons return to collegiate competition on Monday, October 6th at the Greensboro College Invitational in Greensboro, NC. The two-day event will also be played on Tuesday, October 7th.
