MAROONS PLACE SECOND AT TOM KINDER INVITATIONAL

HARRISONBURG, VA--The Roanoke College golf team led after the first round of the Tom Kinder Memorial golf tournament and finished the two-day event just two strokes off the winning score at the Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg, VA. The Maroons finished the event with a team score of 590, just two strokes behind host Bridgewater College.

After the first round, the Maroons held a four-stroke lead over Bridgewater, carding a team-total of 289, just one over par on the par 72 course. Roanoke freshman Chris Devine led the pack after the first day, shooting a four-under 68. Just one position and two strokes behind was teammate, and fellow freshman, Billy McDonald.

The second round saw the Maroons shoot a 301 to finish with a two-day total of 590, just off the 588 carded by the Eagles. McDonald placed second overall with a two-under 142 over the two days, while Devine shot an even 144. Mark Ashby also put together a top-10 finish, placing eighth with a three-over 147. Jason Boggs tied for 25th (157) while Derek Brown tied for 50th (171).

The Maroons return to the course on Friday, September 15th in the Ted Keller Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon College.
