Roanoke Places Fourth at Marlin Golf Inviational
Virginia Beach, VA--- The Roanoke College men's golf team opened their spring schedule with a fourth-place finish in the Marlin Invitational. The Maroons beat out five other squads, including ODAC foes Lynchburg and Virginia Wesleyan. Christopher Newport took the crown with a four man total of 610 after edging out Wake Technical CC in a playoff.
Roanoke was led by sophomore Adam Skaff (Charleston, WV, Charleston Catholic)two-day total of 157 (+13) tying him for 11th place. Casey Fallon (Newburyport, MA, The Gunnery)finished 15th overall after firing rounds of 80 and 79. Second-year players Brandon Ketron (Abingdon, VA, Abingdon)and Rob Pepi (Huntington, NY, Walt Whitman)finished tied for 18th and 20th respectively while junior Patrick Guzi (Goodview, VA, Staunton River)rebounded after a tough first day with a second round 78. Guzi finished the event tied with Wake Techs Scott Colley for the best par five scoring average (4.63).
As a unit the Maroons finished tied for first with 100 pars and sat alone in second place in par five scoring, averaging 5.03 strokes.
Next up for Roanoke is a trip down to Georgia to compete in the Jekyll Island Invitational which begins on March 18th.
