Roanoke Golf Finishes Strong in a Talent Laden Field
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.--- The Maroons finished 15th in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational this past weekend. The #1 ranked Monarchs of Methodist University won the tournament in decisive fashion.
Methodist finished with a team total of 864, bettering #2 Huntingdon College by 24 strokes. The low round of the tournament came from Skidmore College's Chris DeJohn, who fired a first round score of 67 to take the honor. DeJohn and Methodist's Josh Speight finished the tournament tied for first in individually play with a three-day total of 213.
Roanoke was led by sophomore Brandon Ketron (Abingdon, VA, Abingdon)with a three day total of 223, placing him tied for 12th overall in a field that consisted of over 130 golfers. Juniors Casey Fallon (Newburyport, MA, The Gunnery)and Patrick Guzi (Goodview, VA, Staunton River)played solid for the Maroons, posting three day totals of 233 and 234 respectively.
Adam Skaff (Charleston, WV, Charleston Catholic), finished just one stroke behind Guzi tying him for 71st place individually. Roanoke's Rob Pepi (Huntington, NY, Walt Whitman)started strong with first and second round scores of 76 and 78 before a third round 88 put him into a tie for 98th.
The Maroons are set to hit the links again this weekend at the Camp LeJeune Invitational in Jacksonville, NC.
