Roanoke Finishes Sixth in Virginia Intercollegiate Tournament
WINTERGREEN, Va.--- Roanoke's golf team tied for sixth out of twelve teams with Averett at the Virginia Intercollegiate Tournament this past weekend. Sophomore Adam Skaff (Charleston, WV, Charleston Catholic)led the Maroons, tying fourth place with golfers from Hampden-Sydney, Bridgewater and Christopher Newport. Randolph-Macon College captured the tournament title.
Skaff led Roanoke with a score of 149 for the weekend. He shot a 75 the first round, but improved one stroke with a 74 on the scorecard in the second round. Brandon Ketron (Abingdon, VA, Abingdon)placed behind Skaff for the Maroons, tying at ninth place with Britt Parnell from Hampden-Sydney with a score of 152. Ketron hit 78 in the first round and 74 in the second. Skaff and Ketron were the only golfers on Roanoke's squad to improve in the second round.
Rob Pepi (Huntington, NY, Walt Whitman), Tyler Chocklett (Roanoke, VA, William Byrd)and Gregory Morgan (Baltimore, MD, Mount St. Joseph)followed both Skaff and Ketron for Roanoke, with strokes of 159, 167 and 184 respectively.
The next stop for the Maroons will be Greensboro, NC for the Tom and Bettie O'Briant Memorial Oct. 25-27.
