Golf Finishes Sixth at Tom Kinder Memorial Invitational
HARRISONBURG, Va. --- Roanoke finished sixth in its first course meet of the 2010-11 season at the Tom Kinder Memorial Invitational on Tuesday. It was held at Lakeview Golf Club, which is a Par-72 course.
In the two-round tournament, only six sub-par rounds were turned during that span. Tournament winner Joseph Evans (CNU), fired the low round, of a 68. He was the only player to crack the 60s. Evans came from two strokes back on day one, to win by three strokes.
After shooting a 312 to place ninth in day one, the Maroons improved to fourth in the final round. They tied with fellow ODAC-member Washington and Lee with a team score of 299. Behind team champion, Christopher Newport, Bridgewater (296) and Randolph-Macon (297) placed second and third, respectively.
Adam Skaff led Roanoke, shooting a 148 to finish seventh individually (+4). His 71 score in the second round was third among all competitors, three behind the tournament-winner.
Brandon Ketron shot a 151 to place 16th, while Rob Pepi (158) finished 32nd. His round of 74 was 10-strokes better, as he finished with the second-best turnaround in the tournament.
The men will travel to Farmville to compete in the Hampden-Sydney Invitational on Sept. 26. It will be held at the Manor Resort hosted by Hampden-Sydney College.
