Roanoke Finishes Second in ODAC Golf Championships

Roanoke Finishes Second in ODAC Golf Championships
CAPE CHARLES, Va. --- Roanoke finished second at the 2012 ODAC Golf Championships at Bay Creek Golf Resort Tuesday. It is the first time the Maroons placed as tournament runner-up since 1998, making it the fourth time in program-history (1982, 1987, 1998, 2012). It was the highest finish for the Maroons this spring.

Guilford, ranked second in the GCA Coaches Poll, won the event for the 12th time, shooting 20 over par with Andrew Thompson and Nicholas Shedd tying for second place, both shooting three over par. It's the second-straight conference title for the Quakers.

The men shot a combined team score of 315 to give them a tournament two-round total of 615 in the shortened format due to inclement weather. Senior co-captain Brandon Ketron, who was named First-Team All-ODAC and ODAC's Ted Keller Sportsmanship Award Winner, was named the medalist with a two-round scorecard of 145, the fourth-lowest two-round total in ODAC Tournament-history. He shot three-strokes better to finish 71 in the final round to earn ODAC All-Tournament honors. It was his 10th time this season shooting below 75. Ketron, who is ranked 25th in the country individually, increases his chances for an at-large selection to participate in the 2012 NCAA Div. III Men's Golf Championships held in Florida, May 15-18.

Fellow senior co-captain Adam Skaff rebounded from a sub-par day Monday to tally a tournament-low score of 69 (-3 under) in his final round as a Maroon. The 2012 ODAC Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Second-Team All-ODAC selection placed sixth overall to earn ODAC All-Tournament honors. His score was the lowest of any Maroon this season and since Ketron and Guzi did it in the Scarlet Round of the USMC Intercollegiate (3/28/2010).

Freshman Will Reitan shot an 80 to finish third for the Maroons and 20th overall with a two-round scorecard of 158 (+14 over). Senior Patrick Guzi finished with a two-round score of 162 (+18), good enough for a tie for 24th overall while Cam McLaughlin shot a 173 (+29 over) for the tournament.
