Golf Finishes Sixth in Tom Kinder Memorial Invitational

HARRISONBURG - Roanoke finished sixth in its first match of the 2011-12 season at the Tom Kinder Memorial Invitational this past weekend. It was held at Lakeview Golf Club which is a Par-72 course.

In the two-round tournament, 10 sub-par rounds were turned in during that span. Tournament winner Rick O'Connell (Hampden-Sydney), posted the low round of 68 on day two. He was the only player to crack the 60's during the tournament. O'Connell was in a three-way tie for the lead after day one, but broke away from the pack on day two to win by two strokes.

After shooting a 309 to finish in ninth place after day one, the Maroons improved to third place on day two. They tied with fellow ODAC-member Washington and Lee with a team score of 299. Behind team champion Bridgewater, Washington and Lee and Hampden-Sydney finished second and third, respectively.

Brandon Ketron (Abingdon, VA, Abingdon) and Rob Pepi (Huntington, NY, Walt Whitman)both shot a 148 to finish tied for ninth (+4). Both players shot consistantly, as they posted rounds of 74 on each day. Ketron and Pepi finished two strokes out of a tie for fifth place.

The men will travel to Farmville to compete in the Hampden-Sydney Invitational on Sept. 25. It will be held at the Manor Resort hosted by Hampden-Sydney College.
