FRONT ROYAL, VA – The Roanoke College golf team won the 2014 Shenandoah Invitational over the weekend, besting nine teams in the tournament.
 
The Maroons finished the two-day tournament with a total score of 588 (+28), defeating eight other teams including five Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents.  This is the first tournament win under new head coach Curtis Peery.  Roanoke topped second place finisher Shepherd by just one stroke (589), as well as host school Shenandoah University by five strokes (593).  Shepherd's Joey Burkinshaw led all players with a two-day total of 142 (+2).
 
Alex Taylor tied for second place with a total of 146 (+6) after two rounds.  He shot a 75 on the first day, and followed with a +1 71 on the second day.  Andrew Butts and Jack Prater both finished with scores of 147, just one stroke behind Taylor, tying for fourth place.  Prater shot a 71 on the second day, five strokes lower than his first day 76.  Kolton Cooper was also in the pack, tying for 7^th with a 148.  Cooper shot eight strokes lower on the second day, shooting par on the day, the second lowest round of the entire tournament.  Nichlaus Norris finished the tournament with a total of 157 to tie for 33^rd.
 
The Maroons return to action on September 27-29 as they play in the Virginia State Intercollegiate.  The match is scheduled to be played at the Olde Mill Resort in Laurel Fork, VA.
