Roanoke Golf Ties For Second in Virginia State Intercollegiate
LAUREL FORK, VA – The Roanoke College golf team tied for second place at the 2014 Virginia State Intercollegiate over the weekend, played at the Olde Mill Resort.

The Maroons finished the two-day tournament with a total score of 620 (+44), defeating nine other teams in the field, including six Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents.  ODAC school, Hampden-Sydney took the team crown, finishing just two strokes ahead of Roanoke with a two-day score of 618.  The Maroons tied with Averett University, who had two players tie for the individual championship in Onni Hurri and Andy Thorne, shooting a two-day total of 146 (+2).

Will Brown led the Maroons in the tournament, shooting a six-over, 150 for the two days, tying for fourth place.  Andrew Butts and Kolton Cooper both tied for 12th place, as they shot 155 (+11) for the tourney.  Jack Prater and Alex Taylor also tied with one another, shooting 161 (+17) to tie for 25th.  The Maroons held a one-stroke lead entering the second game of competition, leading Hampden-Sydney by eight strokes.

The Maroons return to action on October 12-14 as they play in the Ted Keller Memorial, hosted by Randolph-Macon College.  The match will be played at Hanover Country Club in Ashland, VA.
