The Lead: The Roanoke College Golf team opened its 2016 season on Monday at the Tom Kinder Memorial Tournament and the Maroons stand in a tie for 12^th after the first round.

How it Happened

• The Maroons combined to shoot 312 to sit in a tie with Penn-State Harrisburg.
• Andrew Butts and Nick Norris each shot 77 on the day to find themselves tied for 38^th on the individual leaderboard.
• Butts posted four birdies on the day, while Norris birdied 17 and pared 18 to card a 77.
• After shooting a 43 on the front nine, Kolton Cooper rebounded to fire a 36 on the final nine holes to post a 79.
• Cooper finds himself tied on the leaderboard with teammates Daniel Johnson and Nick Peters who both shot 79 as well.
• Ferrum shot four under to lead after the first round. The Panthers hold a one shot lead over Hampden-Sydney.
