The Lead: Roanoke's Andrew Butts earned Second-Team All-ODAC honors and was named the 2017 Ted Keller Co-Sportsmen of the Year as the RC Golf team closed out its season at the ODAC Championships at Wintergreen Resort on Tuesday.
How it Happened
- Butts was named to the All-ODAC team for the third straight year after being named to the third-team in each of the last two seasons. He shared the Ted Keller Sportsmen of the Year honors with Kirby Struhar of Randolph-Macon. The duo was voted by the league's head coaches as the players who most exemplify sportsmanship on and off the golf course.
- A native of Salem, Butts finished the ODAC Championship in a tie for eighth place overall after shooting a three-round total of 79-73-79—231. It marks the sixth top-10 finish for Butts this season as he closes out his senior year with a 75.7 stroke average in 19 rounds.
- Nick Peters and Andrew Edwards finished in a tie for 34th overall for Roanoke. Peters shot an 80-92-78—250, while Edwards carded an 83-80-87—250.
- Roanoke finished in a tie for seventh-place as a team with a three day score of 329-324-327—980. Guilford won its ODAC record 16th league championship with a 294-294-301—889, 24 strokes better than Washington and Lee.
