The Lead: The Roanoke golf team traveled to Pennsylvania to compete at the, two-day, Battle at the Burg hosted by Gettysburg College. The Maroons fired a 306 on day one and found themselves sixth of the nine teams competing. Day two would see Roanoke move up the leaderboard and after shooting a 299, finished fourth in the event.

How it Happened:

  • Freshman Palmer Cuny posted a 2-over par, 73, to pace the Maroons on the first day of play. Cuny would finish in a tie for 12th (47 golfers in the field) with a 150 two-day total.
  • Fellow freshman TJ Whelan started with a 6-over 77 but shot up the standings with an even-par 71 on the second day and finished tied for fifth at 148.
  • Junior Justin Grenier carded a pair of 75's to tie Cuny at 150 and giving Roanoke three of the top 15 golfers in the field.
  • Sophomore Michael Donnelly dropped five strokes when he finished with a 5-over par 76, one of the best 10 rounds of the second day.
  • Will Abdi posted a final round 79, as all five Maroons broke 80 during the final round, one of four times to accomplish that feat.

Up Next: The Maroons will face the best that the state of Virginia has to offer when they travel to Front Royal in two weeks to compete in the 2021 Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) Collegiate Tournament.
