The Lead: The Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) hosted their annual collegiate event at the Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club in Front Royal on Monday and Tuesday. The Maroons were tied for the lead with Randolph-Macon after the first day of play. Day two would see Southern Virginia come from third place to take the event with Roanoke finishing just one stroke behind the Yellow Jackets.

How it Happened:

  • On day one, sophomore Michael Donnelly posted a 77 to find himself in a tie for 2nd in the field of 62 golfers.
  • Will Clary carded a 78 with Will Abdi and TJ Whelan finishing with 79's as Roanoke was the only team in the 12-team tournament to post four rounds in the 70's.
  • Abdi returned in day two with a 3-over par 75 and finished 3rd overall, just two strokes behind the leader.
  • Clary carded another 78 and finished in a tie for 5th as Roanoke would be one of two schools to have a pair of golfers in the top five.

Up Next: Roanoke will wrap up their fall season with a trip to Greensboro to compete in the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial hosted by Guilford College next Monday and Tuesday.
