The Basics:

Event: 2022 Jekyll Island Collegiate (hosted by Oglethorpe)

Place: 28th/30

Results: 307 | 313 Total: 620
Location: Jekyll Island, Ga. (Jekyll Island Golf Club, Pine Lakes Course)

The Lead: The Maroons traveled to Georgia to compete in the Jekyll Island Collegiate, the best NCAA DIII golf tournament in the country. The 30-team field included seven of the top 10, 15 of the top 25, and 21 of the top 50 teams in the nation. Roanoke would see themselves in a tie of 25th after day one, falling to 28th on the second day of action. The third round for the Maroons would be a wash out as the Oleander Course at the Jekyll Island Golf Club was under two and a half inches of water, denying Roanoke any chance of moving up the leaderboard.

How it Happened:

  • Day one: Junior Justin Grenier paced a Roanoke team that would see all five golfers break 80 on the par-72, 6700-yard course. Grenier carded a 3-over par 75. Fellow junior Will Clary and sophomore Michael Donnelly came in with 5-over par 77's while a pair of freshmen, Palmer Cuny and TJ Whelan each posted 78's.
  • Day two: Whelan was low man with a 4-over par 76. Donnelly recorded his second straight 77 while Cuny was +7 with a 79.

Up Next: Roanoke will be back on the links on Sunday when they travel to the Williamsburg Club to compete in the 2022 Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial. The practice round will be played on March 27th with the two-day event taking place on Monday and Tuesday.
