The Lead: The Roanoke golf team competed in the 2022 Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Tournament over the past three days. The event would be held on the Marine base at the Paradise Point Golf Club. Roanoke would post a two-day total of 623 to find themselves in 17th place. The top 12 teams would advance to the Gold Championship while the Maroons would join 11 other teams in the Scarlett Consolation Tournament. After firing a third round 305, Roanoke would be sixth in the 12-team field.

How it Happened:

  • Day one: Roanoke would play in the late round tee times with the wind picking up as the round went on. Junior Will Clary would pace the Maroons with an 8-over par 80. Michael Donnelly and TJ Whelan each would card 81's while Palmer Cuny rounded out the lineup with an 82.  
  • Day two: Whelan would post a 73 while fellow freshman Cuny carded a 74. Donnelly came in with a 75 while clary posted a 77.
  • Day three: Whelan wrapped up the event with a 74, pacing the Maroons with a total of 228, 11th place in the field. Cuny made it two in the top 20 with a 76 (232) one shot ahead of Clary who also carded a 76. Donnelly and freshman Sean Furlong each posted 79's with all five RC players breaking 80 on the final day.

Up Next: Roanoke wraps up the regular season ranked 94th in the nation in the most recent GolfStat national rankings. The Maroons will compete at the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Golf Tournament at Old Trail in Crozet (Va.) April 29-May 1st.
