Men's Lacrosse has 10 Players named to All-ODAC Team
Nine players were named to the 2009 Men's Lacrosse All-ODAC Team announced this afternoon. Five players were named first-team while four garner second-team honors. Pat March, Zach Thomas, Chas Carlson, Stephen Simmons and Sam Love earned first-team honors while Matt Quinton, Brian Foley, Justin Tuma, Alex Burkhead and Jake Dorsey made the second-team.
March and Thomas were named All-ODAC First-Team at the attack position. March, who was named the 2007 ODAC Rookie of the Year, earned his second-straight All-ODAC honor as a junior. He is tied for first in scoring (66 pts), assists (25) and man-down goals with (3) while second in goals (41), shots (102) and shots on goal (68). For his career he ranks among the all-time greats in scoring (14th), goals (11th) and shots on goal (4th).
Thomas, the winningest player in men's lacrosse history with 61 career wins to his claim, has made the All-ODAC Team for the third time in his career. The only captain of the team, he is ranked among the all-time greats at Roanoke in scoring (4th), goals (5th), assists (6th), shots (2nd) and shots on goal (2nd). For the season, Thomas has 34 goals and a team-high 25 assists for 59 points.
Carlson, a two-time All-American, earned his third-straight All-ODAC honor at midfielder after putting up 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points this season. For his career, he is ranked 11th in career scoring, fourth in career assists and sixth in career shots.
Simmons, a pre-season All-American candidate, earned his second-consecutive All-ODAC honor after a steller season at Long-Stick Midfielder. For the season, he has totaled four goals and three assists for seven points on the season while collecting 95 groundballs.
Love earned his first All-ODAC honor after missing all but three games last season due to an illness. He leads the defense with 87 groundballs while starting in all 18 games played. In the ODAC Championship vs. Washington & Lee, he caused a career-high nine turnovers in the overtime loss.
Quinton, the 2008 ODAC Rookie of the Year, was named Second-Team All-ODAC in his second year with the team. He currently leads the team in goals (54), points (66), shots (123), shots on goal (87) and man-up goals with nine. For his career, Quinton is ranked 26th on the all-time scoring list (116 pts) and seventh in career shots on goal (139).
Foley, a transfer from Presbyterian College, has made a name for himself in his first year with the program. He has totaled 20 goals and 21 assists for 41 points with 74 shots, 39 on goal.
Tuma, a short-stick specialist, was named All-ODAC for the first time in his career. He is fourth in assists (23) while scoring eight goals for 31 points. He has won 105-of-168 face-offs while collecting 120 groundballs, which is ranked fourth in a single-season.
Burkhead, a sophomore defenseman from North Carolina, earned his first All-ODAC honor with his speed and athleticism. He totaled 25 groundballs and two assists from the backfield this season.
Dorsey, a junior from Maryland, earned his first All-ODAC honor in his career. He has totaled 58 groundballs with 184 saves, which is 15 shy of ranking himself 10th for single-season saves. He is tied with Bill Pilat '85 for second in career wins (35) and ninth in career saves (467).
