Men's Lacrosse Moves Up to #7 in USILA Poll
Roanoke Men's Lacrosse bumped up one spot to seventh in this week's USILA Div. III Top-20 Poll announced this afternoon. The Maroons have been ranked in the top-10 in the USILA rankings since the beginning of the 2009 season.
After defeating both then #14 Lynchburg, 15-7 and Virginia Wesleyan, 11-4 in two ODAC contests last week, Roanoke clinched its 14th 10-win season in the storied 40-plus years of the program. The Maroons are currently 10-2 overall, 4-0 in conference play.
ODAC-foes Lynchburg (15th) and Washington & Lee (16th) remained in the poll, along with Stevenson (3rd) and Dickinson (5th), which were the teams' only two setbacks of the season. Cabrini, who the Maroons defeated, 21-7 on March 6, is 18th in the weekly rankings. Other Maroon opponents in the poll that received votes are Williams (9-5 W), St. Mary's (22-7 W) and Endicott, who they will be facing-off against Sunday, Apr. 11 in Darien, CT.
Pat March (32g, 12a) is leading Roanoke in goals and points with 44, along with shots (63) and man-up goals with nine. Matt Quinton (30g, 8a) is second in scoring (38pts), goals and is tied with March for most game-winners this season with three. Trey Keeley has 17 goals, with a team-high 20 assists for 37 points.
Justin Tuma is 76-of-124 in face-offs for a .613 percentage with a team-high 59 groundballs. He has scored 16 goals and dished out 11 assists for 27 points. He was named this week's ODAC Player of the Week for the first time in his career. Jake Dorsey has 106 saves this season for a .561 save percentage and a 7.93 goals against average.
The men will be on the road again this Wednesday, as they travel to Lexington, VA to take on No. 13 Washington & Lee in ODAC action. The Maroons lost in the ODAC Championship, 15-14 in overtime to the Generals last season. Roanoke is 18-25 all-time against Washington & Lee, with the last five meetings decided by a single goal. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Wilson Field.
