SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke came alive in the second quarter and never looked back as they defeated Lynchburg, 12-8 to win the 2010 ODAC Men's Lacrosse Championship Sunday afternoon at Kerr Stadium. It is the Maroons third ODAC Tournament Championship in five years as the team captains hoisted the programs' 16^th ODAC Title plaque.

It was a battle of two of the top-10 teams in the country, as the Maroons (16-2) are fifth in the USILA Div. III poll. The Hornets (13-5) entered the championship game with a #10 ranking. Both teams sit at sixth and seventh, respectively, in the NCAA South Region Poll.

Roanoke outshot Lynchburg, 48-37, and won the groundball war (40-25) for the eighth-straight game. The Maroons won 13-of-23 face-offs and were 23-for-29 on clear attempts. The Hornets were 20-for-22 on the day, including 2-for-3 on man-up opportunities.

The win now gives Roanoke a 31-6 series lead over their ODAC-rival, including a 3-1 record in ODAC Championship games. It's the Maroons third-straight win over the Hornets, which broke their seven-game win-streak.

This historic win also marks the Maroons 22^nd NCAA Tournament appearance, including their fifth berth in the last six years.

Lynchburg took control early in the contest, scoring three of the first four goals to grab the early 3-1 lead after the first 15 minutes of action. The Maroons offense, ranked #1 in the country, came alive by scoring seven of the eight second-quarter goals and went into the half with a 8-4 advantage.

The third quarter was déjà vu from the first quarter, as the Hornets scored three of the four goals and closed to within two, 9-7 entering the final 15 minutes. In the fourth, Jeff Keating (Chatham, NJ, Chatham)scored his second goal of the contest to go up, 10-7 with 11:20 remaining. Lynchburg's Max Voumard answered with a goal of his own to bring it back to within two with 8:10 left.

With 2:22 to go, Keating scored his third goal of the game off a feed from Noah Gibby (Terrace Park, OH, Mariemont)to put the game out of reach. The nail in the coffin came with :51 seconds remaining as Brian Foley (Charlotte, NC, Myers Park)found Matt Quinton (Elora, Ontario, Canada, Kitchener Braves)for a man-up goal to seal the win and the Maroons 16^th win, which is the second-most in a single-season at Roanoke.

Keating and Quinton led the Maroons in scoring with three goals each. Quinton is now 13^th on the career scoring list with 177 points. His 143 career goals moved are now fifth on that list.

Pat March (Glen Burnie, MD, Mt. St. Joseph)had a goal and a team-best two assists, along with Trey Keeley (Lancaster, PA, Conestaga Valley High School). March is tied for second on the career goals list with 145 while his 230 points rank him fifth on the career scoring list. In addition, March tied the school-record in shots on goal (240) while his 85 career assists rank him ninth on that list. Steve Furdock (Birmingham, MI, Birmingham Seaholm)finished with two goals, which give him 98 career points, two shy of becoming the 42^nd member of the 100-point club at Roanoke.

Justin Tuma (Bloomfield Hills, MI, Lahser)collected a game-best seven groundballs and won 11-of-19 face-offs this afternoon. His 247 career groundballs are now 10^th on the all-time list, joining Stephen Simmons (West Friendship, MD, Mt. St. Joseph), who is seventh on that list with 273. He finished with three groundballs today. Drew Manley (Severna Park, MD, St. Mary's Annapolis)had five groundballs, followed by Sam Love (Berwyn Heights, MD, Dematha)with four.

Jake Dorsey (Woodbine, MD, Mt. St. Joseph)earned his school-record 51^st career win in goal for the Maroons. He collected five groundballs and had 15 saves. Dorsey now has 638 career saves, just 14 shy of passing current assistant coach and former All-American Steve Mason '91 for third on the all-time list.

The Maroons will await their opponent in the NCAA Div. III Men's Lacrosse Selection Show, which will be aired at 10 p.m. on CBS College Sports Network.
