Roanoke Hosts Wittenberg in First Round of NCAA's
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Roanoke College learned that it will be the lone representative of the ODAC in the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday evening. Earlier in the day, the Maroons, ranked fifth in the country, defeated #10 Lynchburg College, 12-8, to claim their 15th conference title.

The NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament features 23 teams from across the nation. Automatic bids went out to each of 15 winners of conferences with automatic qualification, including Roanoke. The rest of the field is made up of three “Pool B” and five “Pool C” at-large bids. Pool B includes teams that play independent of a conference or are from a conference that does not have automatic qualification into the NCAA Tournament. Pool C includes all teams not receiving an automatic or Pool B bid, including those Pool B teams that were not chosen in the original selection of independent qualifiers.

The Maroons (16-2) take on Wittenberg College (Ohio) (10-4) in the first round in Salem at Kerr Stadium on Wednesday, May 12. Roanoke has never faced the Tigers, who enter the tournament following a loss to Ohio Wesleyan College that split the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship between the two foes.

The winner of the Roanoke-Wittenberg contest will make its way to Gettysburg College (15-2) for a second round match up with the third-ranked Bullets on Saturday, May 15. Play continues on campuses in quarterfinal action on May 19 and in the semifinals on May 23.

The 2010 NCAA Division III National Championship will join the D-II title game and the D-I semifinals and finals at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md., in a showcase-type setting. The D-III title game is set for 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 30, and will be televised live by CBS College Sports. The entire event weekend is hosted by Johns Hopkins University, Towson University, Loyola College (Maryland), and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

Tickets go on sale at 5.00 dallars for general admission, 3.00 dollars for students and senior citizens.
