Three Maroons Selected to play in Annual USILA North/South Senior All-Star Game

Senior lacrosse players Sam Love (Berwyn Heights, MD, Dematha), Matt Quinton (Elora, Ontario, Canada, Kitchener Braves)and Stephen Simmons (West Friendship, MD, Mt. St. Joseph)were selected to play in the annual USILA North/South Senior All-Star Game announced this week. The game will kick-off the men's lacrosse NCAA Championship weekend in Baltimore, MD this Friday at 2 p.m. at Goucher College.

Love, a senior defender, earned All-American honors for the second-straight season. A team captain this spring, he garnered First-Team All-ODAC for the second-straight year. He totaled 73 groundballs in 2010 and finished with 241 for his career. He also scored two goals and had three assists.

Quinton, a senior attackman, earned All-American honors for the first time in his career. The two-time All-ODAC selection finished the season ranked second in the ODAC in goals per game and led the team with 57. Quinton finished the season second on the team in scoring (69pts) while totaling 111 shots, 87 on goal for a .784 SOG percentage. On March 8, Quinton was voted both ODAC Player of the Week and Nike/Inside Lacrosse National Player of Week awards. He finished with 186 career points, ranked 13th on the all-time list at Roanoke. His 149 goals are third all-time behind March, and his 227 shots on goal are also third all-time. Quinton's 22 man-up goals tie for fourth on the career list with Andy Bonasera '03.

Simmons, a senior long-pole midfielder, was tabbed All-American for the second-straight season. A second-team selection a year ago, he also earned first-team All-ODAC for the second-straight year this spring. A three-time all-conference selection (honorable mention in 2008), Simmons was voted team captain during his final campaign and collected 85 groundballs, ranked fourth in the conference. He finished his career with 284, ranked sixth on the all-time list at Roanoke.

The Maroons finished 18-3 on the season, breaking their own school and ODAC record from a year ago. Roanoke was ranked in the top-10 in every weekly poll, a streak that has spanned over the past two seasons. They finished with a #5 ranking and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 19th time in program-history. The men finished second in the country in scoring offense, groundballs and assists per game while leading the nation in points per game and scoring margin.
