Men's Lacrosse Stays atop ODAC with a 19-10 Victory against Washington and Lee
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke remained undefeated in ODAC play with a 19-10 win over Washington and Lee on Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons improve to 8-3 overall, 4-0 in conference play. The Generals slip to 7-6, 4-1 in the ODAC.
The Maroons, who are ranked eighth in this week's USILA Poll, won their third-straight game. Roanoke out-shot Washington and Lee, 58-40, held a 56-39 edge in groundballs and won 22-of-33 face-offs. RC was 12-of-14 in clear attempts.
Drew Manley (Severna Park, MD, St. Mary's Annapolis) scored the first goal just over a minute in to the contest before Washington and Lee's Mac Means put in back-to-back scoring efforts to take an early, 2-1 advantage with 7:16 to go in the first.
Roanoke went on to score eight unanswered goals over the ensuing 17-minutes to take a commanding 9-2 lead with 5:27 remaining in the second quarter. The Generals answered with three-straight goals and went into the half with a five-goal deficit.
The Maroons started the second half with three goals with just two-minutes elapsed to take a, 13-5 lead. The Generals again roared back, scoring four of the next five goals to cut it to five with 3:49 remaining in the third period.
Roanoke's potent offensive attack proved to be too much tonight, scoring five unanswered goals to take its largest lead of the game, 19-9 with 2:52 left.
Jeff Keating (Chatham, NJ, Chatham) led all scorers with six points (3g, 3a) while Richard Lachlan added four goals and an assist for five points. Both Trey Keeley (Lancaster, PA, Conestaga Valley High School) and Justin Tuma (Bloomfield Hills, MI, Lahser) finished with five points (1g, 4a) each. Tuma also collected 13 groundballs and won 16-of-25 face-offs. Keeley won 6-of-8 face-offs and totaled seven groundballs.
Stephen Degenhardt (Troy, MI, Detroit Jesuit) posted a career-best three goals as both Reid Mayberry (Annandale, VA, W.T. Woodson) and Mike Hayden (Vienna, VA, James Madison HS) added two goals. Charles Pease (Landisville, PA, Hempfield) (4-2) earned the win in goal for Roanoke, coming up with 11 saves on the night.
Means led the Generals with four goals, followed by Spence Daw with three and Sam Mott with two. Drew Koenman dished out two assists while Jack Switala chipped in a goal and an assist. Jason Lumpkin (4-4) had five saves in the first half. Ned Lundvall totaled seven second-half saves in relief.
The men return to action on Saturday, April 9 as they travel to Lynchburg to take on Randolph College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. They continue their drive up north on Sunday in a showdown against #18 Cabrini which starts at 2 p.m.
