SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke mounted a furious fourth-quarter comeback to knock off Hampden-Sydney, 17-15 on senior day Saturday afternoon. The Maroons are now 11-3 overall, 6-0 in the ODAC. The Tigers dipped to 9-4, 3-3 in conference play.

The Maroons, ranked eighth in this week's USILA Top-20 Poll, clinched their third-straight ODAC Regular Season title. They did it in remarkable fashion, as RC reeled off nine unanswered goals in the final period to extend its conference win-streak to 19-straight. It's the second-longest streak in ODAC men's lacrosse history, trailing Roanoke's run from 1981-89 with 27 consecutive wins.

Roanoke, which has been ranked in the USILA Top-10 since February of 2009, currently carries a 32-5 conference record since 2005. The Maroons now hold a 33-10 series lead over the Tigers, claiming eight of the last nine meetings.

Hampden-Sydney came out firing, opening the first 15-miuntes of play with a 7-3 lead. The Tigers maintained the momentum in the second quarter and extended their lead to five by halftime with a 10-5 advantage.

Roanoke scored four of the next six goals to start the second half, cutting its deficit to within three with 4:26 left in the third quarter. But H-SC responded in a big way, capitalizing on three-straight open scoring opportunities to build its lead to 14-8 heading into the final stanza.

That's when the fireworks started for the victors. RC scored four-straight goals in fast-break situations to cut the lead to within two as Hampden-Sydney called timeout with 10:35 remaining in regulation.

After the Tigers tried to stall the game over the next three minutes of play, the Maroons fired four more unanswered goals in a span of two-minutes and to take a two-goal edge with 5:12 left. Jeff Keating (Chatham, NJ, Chatham) scored off an assist from Jeff Dube (Burlington, MA, St. John's Prep) to take their largest lead of the game, 17-14 with just over a minute to go.

The potent offense of the Maroons out-shot H-SC, 56-30 and was successful in 16-of-17 clears. They held a strong 48-29 advantage in the groundballs column while forcing 12 unsuccessful clear attempts for the Tigers, who were 14-of-26.

Justin Tuma (Bloomfield Hills, MI, Lahser) finished the day with two goals and one assist, but won 16-of-29 face-offs, including 8-of-11 in the fourth quarter to lead the Maroons on that remarkable comeback. He collected 18 groundballs, which moved him third on the single-season list at Roanoke with 139. Tuma is now only 18 groundballs shy of breaking the 27-year old career groundballs record held by Rocco Guglielmo '84.

Keating led the offensive attack for Roanoke with six goals while handing out two assists for eight points. He moved into 19^th on the career scoring list at Roanoke with 162 points. Trey Keeley (Lancaster, PA, Conestaga Valley High School) and Mike Hayden (Vienna, VA, James Madison HS) added two goals and two assists each while Reid Mayberry (Annandale, VA, W.T. Woodson) and Richard Lachlan (Port Coquitlam, B.C., Terry Fox Secondary) netted two goals of their own.

Defensively, Alex Burkhead (Winston-Salem, NC, Forsyth Country Day) caused five turnovers and collected five groundballs to lead the Maroons. Drew Manley (Severna Park, MD, St. Mary's Annapolis) had three caused turnovers with a goal during the fourth-quarter scoring barrage.

Cole Hawthorne had three goals and two assists for the Tigers. Carter Mavromatis dished out a game-high four assists with two goals as teammate Eric Gorsline had three goals on the day. Brad Mostowy won 17-of-35 face-offs and collected 11 groundballs. Micah Keller finished with two goals and an assist.

Charles Pease (Landisville, PA, Hempfield) (7-2) totaled eight saves on the afternoon for Roanoke. Cody Hornung finished with 10 saves and collected six groundballs for Hampden-Sydney.

The men will travel to Greensboro, NC to play against Guilford in their regular season finale. The Maroons have won 19-straight against the Quakers since 1992. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20.
