Roanoke Remains Eighth in the USILA Week 9 Top-20 Coaches Poll
The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team remains eighth in the Week 9 USILA Top-20 Coaches Poll announced Monday. It is the fifth-consecutive week the Maroons have been ranked in the eighth slot of the national poll.
Salisbury (16-1), which defeated Roanoke, 10-7 last month, earned top billing for the first time this spring. The Sea Gulls, who knocked off then top-ranked Stevenson, 16-14 in the Capital Athletic Conference Championship last Saturday, earned six first-place votes and 269 total points. The Mustangs dropped to #4 with 245 points.
Rochester Institute of Technology (13-0) remains at No. 2 for the second-straight week, as the Tigers garnered six first-place votes and 266 points. Defending national champion Tufts moved from No. 4 to No. 3, as the Jumbos (11-1) received two first-place votes and 251 points. Cortland (11-2) rounds out the top-five after collecting 220 points.
Dickinson, Stevens Tech, Roanoke and Amherst each held down the 6, 7, 8, and 9th spots while Haverford moved into the top-10, leapfrogging Middlebury which slipped to 11th. The Maroons are 3-3 against teams ranked or have received votes in the weekly survey. They fell to #1 Salisbury, #4 Stevenson and #6 Dickinson, but defeated Hampden-Sydney (RV), Cabrini (RV) and Lynchburg (19th).
The Maroons, who have been ranked in the USILA Top-10 over the last three seasons, completed the regular season with a 12-3 record, including a 7-0 mark in the ODAC. The men claimed their third-straight regular season conference crown, going undefeated in the conference for the third-straight year. The programs' feat of 20-straight conference victories is only topped by RC's run of 27-straight from 1981-89.
The men will receive a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the ODAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament. They will play Saturday, April 30 against the winner of Hampden-Sydney/Virginia Wesleyan at 1 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
