Tuma Named ODAC Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Senior Justin Tuma (Bloomfield Hills, MI, Lahser) was named the 2011 ODAC Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year announced Friday afternoon. It's the first Maroon since 2007 to win the student-athlete award.
Tuma, who was recently named the 2011 ODAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year, is a business major and economics minor with a 3.67 GPA. The midfielder and two-year team captain has excelled off the field with seven-straight semesters on the Dean's List. While at Roanoke, Tuma has been a member of SAAC, academic integrity board, student conduct board, academic athletic advisory committee and the Maroon ambassador program. A two-time USILA All-American, the Michigan native is part of the Honors program, Alpha Kappa Psi and Delta Delta Gamma while receiving an honors award from the business department.
A Lasher High School product, Tuma holds the career, season and game groundball records and is a three-time winner of the programs' groundball award. He is second all-time in career face-off wins and is a finalist for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award by the Greater Washington Sports Alliance. Tuma is a three-time All-ODAC selection and has totaled 23 goals and 23 assists for 46 points on the season in addition to 211 face-off wins. He needs 10 more face-off wins to break the single-season record.
The Maroons are currently 13-3 overall and finished 7-0 in conference play for their third-straight undefeated season in the ODAC. RC is on a 20-game regular season conference win-streak and ranked #8 in the USILA Top-20 Coaches Poll. Roanoke defeated Hampden-Sydney, 13-11 in the ODAC Semifinals and will host #18 Lynchburg in the ODAC Championship Sunday, May 8. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
