Roanoke Moves up to Seventh in USILA Top-20 Poll
The Roanoke College Men's Lacrosse program moved up one spot to seventh in the Week 11 USILA Top-20 Coaches Poll announced this afternoon. It's the first time in over a month that the Maroons moved in the weekly rankings.
Roanoke (14-3) which defeated #18 Lynchburg, 12-10 in the 2011 ODAC Championship, was ranked fourth in the NCAA Div. III South Region Rankings. The only three losses suffered this season came against #1 Salisbury, #3 Stevenson and #6 Dickinson. The men are riding a nine-game win-streak and finished undefeated in the ODAC for the third-straight year, upping the conference win-streak to 20.
The Maroons are ranked among the best in NCAA Div. III in points per game (1st), assists per game (1st), groundballs per game (2nd), scoring offense (3rd) and man-up offense (5th). Justin Tuma (Bloomfield Hills, MI, Lahser), who was named both the Scholar-Athlete and Player of the Year in the ODAC, is fifth nationally in groundballs and 19th in face-off win percentage.
The 2011 Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament field was selected on Sunday evening as Roanoke earned its 23rd bid. The Maroons will host SCAC champion, Colorado College (15-0) on Wednesday, May 11 at Kerr Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
