Burkhead, Keeley, Manley and Tuma named to USILA Annual North-South All-Star Game
Seniors Alex Burkhead (Winston-Salem, NC, Forsyth Country Day), Trey Keeley (Lancaster, PA, Conestaga Valley High School), Drew Manley (Severna Park, MD, St. Mary's Annapolis) and Justin Tuma (Bloomfield Hills, MI, Lahser) were selected to the 2011 USILA Annual North-South All-Star Game announced this afternoon. This is the second consecutive season that three Maroons were selected to the prestigious all-star lacrosse game. Since 1972, there have been 42 Roanoke College lacrosse players to play in the USILA Annual Spring Classic.

The first North-South College all-star game was played in 1940 at Municipal Stadium in Baltimore, MD. The North squad coached by Princeton's Bill Logan won that inaugural event with a 6-5 victory over the South team coached by Maryland's Jack Faber. Sixty-six total games have been played with interruptions occurring only in With the exception of 1944 and 1945 the North/South games have been played each year without interruption.

In 1991, the USILA split the event and created two games. The Division I-II game and the Division III game. This two-game format was interrupted in 2006 when a special committee of the USILA recommended returning to one game but combining all divisions. The following year, 2007, saw the return to two separate games.
Tuma, who was recently named the 2011 ODAC Men's Lacrosse Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, graduated in May with a business and economics degree and a 3.68 GPA. The midfielder and two-year team captain holds the career, season and game groundball records and is a three-time winner of the programs' groundball award. Tuma is a three-time All-ODAC selection and totaled 26 goals and 28 assists for 54 points on the season in addition to school-records of 257 face-off wins and 200 groundballs.

Burkhead earned a spot on the All-ODAC squad for the third-straight season, including back-to-back first-team accolades. A team captain this season, he started in all 21 games this season and 71 of 75 career games on the defensive end. This season, the North Carolina native totaled two goals, two assists, 62 groundballs and 47 caused turnovers. He has compiled 182 groundballs and 71 caused turnovers for his career.

Keeley was selected, but will not able to play due to a season-ending injury suffered against Colorado College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. He earned All-ODAC recognition for the second time in his career earlier this month. The senior attack ranks second in the ODAC with 26 assists. Keeley is ranked 12th all-time at Roanoke in career assists. He started in 14 of 17 games while totaling 25 goals, 51 points and won 51-of-87 face-offs (.586). A three-year starter, Keeley has totaled 149 career points, ranked 22nd on the career scoring list.

Manley earned All-ODAC honors for the second time in his career. He currently is fifth in the ODAC in caused turnovers (35) and sixth in groundballs (84). A team captain this year, Manley has seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points. He notched season-bests of eight groundballs vs. Dickinson (3/12) and Cabrini (4/10) in addition to 13 groundballs over the last two regular season games. He caused four turnovers vs. Virginia Wesleyan (4/2).

Roanoke finished 17-4, 7-0 in the ODAC. The Maroons, ranked #7 in the final USILA National Poll, finished as a national finalist for the sixth time in program-history. The 21-game conference win-streak is the second-longest in ODAC history, completing the third consecutive season with an undefeated conference ledger. RC knocked off Lynchburg to cap back-to-back ODAC Championships.

The Division III North/South Game will be played at 3:00 p.m. and the Division I-II Game will be played at 5:30pm on Friday, May 27, 2011 on the campus of Goucher College.
