Justin Tuma Earns ODAC/Farm Bureau Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete Award
FOREST, Va. --- Roanoke College men's lacrosse player, Justin Tuma (Bloomfield Hills, MI, Lahser), is one of 10 student-athletes from Old Dominion Athletic Conference member schools to earn a 2011 ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award during the spring athletic schedule. Tuma was tabbed from a pool of nominees by a vote of each of the conference's sports information directors.

The ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar Athlete Award is given to a student-athlete in each of the conference's 22 sponsored sports. Farm Bureau Insurance of Virginia is the presenter of each of the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Awards, forming a partnership with the ODAC to emphasize the NCAA Division III philosophy of the complete student-athlete experience. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore standing and have spent at least one full academic year at the nominating institution, must maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, and must have participated in at least 50-percent of the team's events as a starter or key contributor.

Tuma, a senior from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., is a standout for the Maroons on and off the field. In the classroom, Tuma maintains a 3.67 grade point average as a Business major with a minor in Economics. He is a seven-time honoree on the Roanoke College Dean's List, having also been named to the All-ODAC Academic Team three straight seasons. Tuma is a member of several campus organizations including SAAC, the Academic Integrity Board, Student Conduct Board and the Academic Athletic Advisory Committee. He is a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (national business honorary) and participates in the Maroon Ambassador program.

On the field, Tuma sets the pace for the Maroons from the center spot, spurring the offense into motion as the Maroons went through the ODAC campaign towards the tournament's No. 1 seed. Tuma finished second in the conference and 31st in the nation in face-off percentage (.600), and his 257 face-offs won were tops in the ODAC. He tied for sixth in assists (27) and seventh in total points (53). Tuma led the ODAC and placed sixth nationally in groundballs, having corralled 200 loose balls (9.52/game). He registered a point in all but three games played (18 total), having notched four or more tallies in seven contests. He is also the only player in the conference to register more than one man-down goal (2).

"We are proud of the accomplishments of every one of our student-athletes," says ODAC commissioner Brad Bankston. "It is especially gratifying to be able to recognize those who personify the definition of ‘student-athlete' through these awards, and we are proud to be affiliated with Farm Bureau Insurance in this program."
