SALEM - The #10 Roanoke Men's Lacrosse team was held close(5-5) by Adrian for the first two quarters, but turned on the afterburners in the second half, defeating the Bulldogs, 16-7 on Thursday.
The Maroons sit now at 2-1 on the season while Adrian is now 1-1 after the loss.
Adrian and Roanoke were locked up at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter. After the teams traded goals in the second half, the Maroons rattled off three straight to close out the first half ahead 8-5.
Pulling in to the third quarter, Roanoke only netted two goals to go ahead 10-5. In the final stanza the Maroons outscored the Bulldogs 6-2 to finish the game ahead 16-7.
Roanoke held the edge in shots (49-31), groundballs (41-34) and face-offs (14-11). Roanoke was 3-for-9 in extra man opportunities and were successful on 20-of-23 clears.
Jeff Keating and Conner DuBois led the Maroons with four goals a piece. Dubois also led the team with six ground balls while Keating picked up four. Drew Bracken and Richard Lachlan finished the game with two goals each.
Bracken led Roanoke in assists with four, while Keating dished out three. Max Satossky went 10-for-18 in face-offs while Conner DuBois was 4-for-7.
John Hudzinski and Coady Adamson led Adrian with two goals each, while three other Bulldogs had one goal on the afternoon. Adamson and David Monroe had the lone assists for their team.
The Maroons return to action on March 8th as they travel to Orlando, Fla. to face Kenyon College. The team will return to home action on March 11th as the Maroons face off against #13 Dickinson. That contest is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.
