Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past Hampden-Sydney, 21-13 in ODAC Action

FARMVILLE --- Roanoke scored over 20 goals for the first time this season in a 21-13 victory over Hampden-Sydney in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Saturday afternoon at Fulton Field. The Maroons, ranked #14 in the country, improve to 5-3 overall, 1-1 in the ODAC. The Tigers, who received votes in this week's national poll, slip to 3-4, 1-1 in conference play.

The Maroons opened the first quarter with an 8-3 lead as Brayden Gerrie and Joey Coretti led the charge. Then played slowed down as the Tigers controlled the tempo, scoring two of only three goals to end the half with a four-goal deficit, 9-5.

Roanoke, who scored over 20 goals for the first time since Colorado College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last spring, outscored Hampden-Sydney, 7-2 to take control.

With the score 17-8 in the final period, the Tigers tallied four unanswered goals to close to within five. But the late surge was too late as the Maroons won their 22nd conference game in the last 23 outings. Richard Lachlan ended the Tigers run with a goal just 24 seconds later, and then the Maroons scored three goals in less than a minute to end the threat.

Jeff Keating led Roanoke with three goals and three assists. Coretti and Lachlan each totaled three goals. Max Satossky collected 11 groundballs to lead the Maroons and won 19-of-32 face-offs.

Gerrie finished with two goals and seven groundballs while Conner DuBois added two goals on the afternoon.

Mike Hardon earned the win in goal, stopping 15 shots. David Noftsinger and Cody Hornung combined for nine saves for H-SC.

The shots were even (47-47) while the Tigers held an edge in groundballs, 47-37. The men were successful in 16-of-21 clear attempts.

The men return home on Wednesday, March 28 as they host Christopher Newport in non-conference action. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
