Roanoke Cruises to 21-10 Victory over Virginia Wesleyan
VIRGINIA BEACH --- Roanoke mounted 20 goals for the second time in the last three games with a 21-10 victory over Virginia Wesleyan in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Saturday afternoon. The Maroons, winners of three-straight, improve to 7-3 overall, 2-1 in the ODAC. The Marlins fall to 6-4, 2-2 in conference play.

Nick Pappas led all scorers with seven goals to lead the Marlins, but he had little help as the Maroons rolled to victory, outscoring them, 7-1 after the first 15-minutes of action. Roanoke mounted a nine-goal halftime advantage and extended the lead to 18-4 by the end of the third quarter to keep the Marlins at bay.

Joey Coretti tallied six goals for the second-straight game to tie a season-best along with two assists. Jeff Keating totaled three goals and a team-high four assists while Mike Hayden added three goals and three assists to his claim.

Conner DuBois scored twice, but his contribution was more valued at the face-off position, winning 10-of-15 attempts and collected 10 groundballs to lead the Maroons. Michael Packo scooped up six groundballs while Brayden Gerrie scored a goal, dished out an assist and collected four groundballs to pace Roanoke to their seventh win of the season.

Roanoke topped Virginia Wesleyan in shots (48-33), groundballs (61-45) and caused 35 turnovers. The Maroons were successful in 25-of-29 clear attempts and 5-of-9 in extra-man opportunities.

Mike Hardon earned the win between the pipes for Roanoke, coming up with nine saves while Charles Pease and Gil Long had a save each. Corey Bauer totaled 15 saves in goal for the Marlins.

The men are back on the road Wednesday, April 4 as they travel to Lexington to take on Washington and Lee in a big ODAC contest. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
