The theme of the Accelerated Reader program this year was let reading take you around the world. “We had something to do with a different continent each six weeks, and so, we thought what better way to do it than with the oldest sport in North America,” explains Mrs. Boblett, the school librarian.
Prior to the exhibition, the students learned the history and some basics of lacrosse; however, men's lacrosse head coach Bill Pilat and the players went into a more depth analysis of the game, illustrating the different positions and sticks. Pilat commented, “[the Accelerated Reader program] is a great way for us to give back to our community. Also, it's a great way for us to spread the great word of lacrosse to the Roanoke Valley and…to show kids that we really care about academics and reading.”
The men's lacrosse team's current overall and conference records are 7-3 and 2-1, respectively. They return to home action at Kerr Stadium on Saturday, April 7, 2012, as they take on Randolph College in ODAC play. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
