Roanoke Rolls to 26-3 Victory over Randolph in Men's Lacrosse
SALEM --- Roanoke jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 26-3 victory over Randolph in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Maroons improved to 9-3 overall, 4-1 in the ODAC. The WildCats dropped to 3-10, 0-6 in conference play.

Roanoke, which are winners of five-straight, are one win shy of clinching the programs' fourth-straight 10-win season. The longest string of 10-win seasons is from 2003-07. The 26 goals are the most since the 29-8 victory over Guilford in the final game of the 2011 regular season. It was the programs' third 20-goal performance in the last five games.

The game was out of reach in a hurry, with five goals in the first five minutes of the contest. With a 14-0 halftime lead, the men posted five addition goals in the third quarter and added another in the fourth to go up 20-0 with 14:43 remaining in the game. From there, the WildCats tallied three of the final nine goals to give a the final result.

The Maroons posted season-bests in shots (67), groundballs (63) and was successful in all 18 clear attempts and won the face-off battle (21-of-34) for the first time all season. RC was 3-for-4 in extra-man opportunities. The men forced a season-high 30 turnovers for the game.

This was a big game for the program as a team, as the 20 assists were the most all spring coming from 12 different players. Several young players had multi-goal games and others recording their first career points.

Richard Lachlan led Roanoke in the goals column with five goals while Jeff Keating totaled four goals and two assists. Keating passed current assistant coach and former All-American Zach Thomas for fifth on the career scoring list (240 pts). Chad Smith led RC with four assists to go along with two goals as Chris Doran tallied four goals and an assist. Dominic Gurnsey dished out three assists in the victory.

The men return to action next Saturday, April 14 as they take on Randolph-Macon in ODAC action. Prior to the game, the 2012 senior class will be recognized during alumni weekend festivities. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
