Mayberry Shines on Senior Day, Men's Lacrosse Victorious 25-14 over Randolph-Macon
SALEM - Reid Mayberry had a career day for Roanoke Men's Lacrosse as he netted seven goals in the Maroons 25-14 win over Randolph-Macon on Saturday. The Maroons move to 10-3, 5-1 ODAC, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-6, 3-3 in ODAC play.

This contest was also Senior Day that celebrated the careers of seven seniors: Brian Ingold, Jeff Keating, Joey Coretti, Jimmy McNeely, Pat Baer, Eric Delong and Reid Mayberry.

The Yellow Jackets jumped on the board early in the first quarter, as Brian Rowe netted a goal in the first minute of play. The Maroons responded early and often as Reid Mayberry rattled off a hat trick over the course of the next eight minutes to give the Maroons a 3-1 lead. Roanoke continued to score through the end of the first quarter as three different players found the back of the net giving Roanoke a 6-1 lead after the first 15.

The Maroons scored again in just :35 of the second quarter as Mike Hayden scored an unassisted goal to go up 7-1. Randolph-Macon's Rowe responded a minute later to cut the Yellow Jacket deficit to five, 7-2. The Maroons went on a run of another three goals including one more from Mayberry, to advance to 10-2. Both teams traded goals over the course of six minutes pushing the score to 13-5. With 4:28 to play, senior Keating netted his second goal of the contest, and followed with one more a minute later. Mayberry capped the first half with his fifth goal of the game to close the stanza ahead 16-5.

Randolph-Macon came out of the break hot, scoring two goals in the first minute and a half of the third period. But the Maroons were quick to stop that run as they scored five more goals to the Yellow Jacket's two for the remainder of the period, ending the third ahead 21-9.

In the fourth, Mayberry started the scoring, hitting his seventh goal of the contest, followed by Richard Lachlan and Spencer Parsons to go up 23-9 with 10 minutes to play. The fourth would close as the Maroons were outscored 5-1 in the final ten minutes with the only Roanoke goal during that time coming from Jeff Keating. However, the Maroons would hold on to win the contest 25-14.

Mayberry led the team with seven goals off 12 shots. He also tied Brayden Gerrie for the most groundballs in the game with 7. Jeff Keating and Richard Lachlan each finished the contest with four goals.

Randolph-Macon was led by Bryan Rowe who scored four goals, and he was followed by Tim Rowe with three. Roanoke outshot Randolph-Macon 69-29 in the contest, as well as holding the advantage in ground balls with a margin of 71-46.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, April 18th as they play host to Guilford College at Donald J. Kerr Stadium. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
