Roanoke now leads the all-time series 29-2 against Guilford. The last time Guilford won in the series was in 1991.
Reid Mayberry, coming of his career-high, seven goal game on Saturday, opened up the scoring for the Maroons in the first period. Mayberry netted the first goal eight minutes in to the contest off a pass from Mike Hayden. Richard Lachlan quickly found the back of the net just 13 seconds later. The Maroons would score three more goals before the end of the period including two more from Mayberry and a Kyle Smith goal with 4:46 remaining.
The Maroons wouldn't produce a shutout in the first period as Guilford's Chris Ashcraft scooped one in the goal with two seconds to spare, pulling the Quakers within four, 5-1 to end the period.
Entering the second period, Mayberry went at it again as he scored two goals within the first twelve seconds, giving the Maroons the 7-1 lead. Guilford's Ian Parker netted another goal for the Quakers at the 13:00 minute mark to make the game 7-2, Roanoke.
Jeff Keating, Michael Packo, and Lachlan netted goals over the next nine minutes to build the eight goal lead for the Maroons, now ahead 10-2. In the last 1:30 in the half, Roanoke and Guilford would trade goals as Parker put one in for the Quakers, while Keating found the back of the net with just 13 seconds left. The teams entered the break with Roanoke ahead 10-3.
Coming out of the locker room in the third period, the Maroons picked up where they left off with Lachlan scoring at the 11:22 mark. Guilford responded just a minute later as Taylor Teodosio scored a man-up goal with an assist from Nick Mann. At 9:49, Joey Coretti found his first goal of the game, then just six seconds later, Mayberry found his sixth goal of the night from a Coretti pass. Roanoke and Guilford split goals again to end the period, leaving the score at 15-5 to end the third.
In the fourth, only four goals were scored as the Maroons and Quakers split goals over the course of 15 minutes. Keating and Chris Doran scored the goals for the Maroons as Roanoke walks away victorious 17-7.
Reid Mayberry led the Maroons for the second game in a row, this time scoring six goals off 10 shots. Jeff Keating finished the game with three goals, launching himself to sole position of second on the all-time scoring list with 155 goals. Keating passed Pat March, who scored 152 goals from 2007-10.
The Maroons return to action on April 28th after receiving a first round bye in the ODAC tournament. They will play host to the #3 vs. #6 winner in the second round at Donald J. Kerr Stadium. The game time is currently TBA.
