Men's Lacrosse Wins 17-12 Over Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday
SALEM - The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team was victorious over Virginia Wesleyan, 17-12 on Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. The Maroons now have a record of 5-3; 2-0 in ODAC play, while the Marlins are 4-3; 1-1 in the ODAC.

Richard Lachlan moved in to second place all-time in scoring at Roanoke College after his five goals today. With 159 career goals, he passed Jeff Keating '12 who previously held the #2 spot with 158 goals. Lachlan currently leads the team this season in scoring and points, as he has scored 24 goals and tallied five assists for 29 total points.

The Maroons jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Lachlan netted an unassisted goal just 44 seconds into the game. Virginia Wesleyan then scored back to back goals to take their only lead of the game of 2-1. Roanoke then responded with goals from Joey Dishaw and Mike Hayden, giving Roanoke a 3-2 lead. After the Marlins tied the game at three each, Roanoke's Lachlan and Will Pilat netted goals to end the quarter with a 5-3 lead.

The second quarter started out even better for the Maroons as they scored four goals to opened up the period. Kyle Smith, Hayden, Will Carter and Charlie Shugrue each netted a goal, putting Roanoke ahead 9-3. After trading a pair of goals, Virginia Wesleyan closed the final six minutes of the half, outscoring Roanoke 4-2, pulling within four, 12-8 at the end of 30 minutes.

After Wesleyan's Josh Currier netted the first goal of the second half, The Maroons went on a 5-0 run over the third period. Will Pilat scored two goals, while Lachlan, Tyler McWilliams and Spenser Parsons all had goals of their own. After the third period, Roanoke led 17-9. The Marlins held Roanoke scoreless in the fourth period, but only netted three goals, giving the Maroons a 17-12 victory in ODAC play.

Lachlan led the Maroons in scoring with five goals, followed by Pilat who tallied four. Pilat also had three assists to his credit in the contest, giving him a team high seven points on the night. Tyler McWilliams led the squad in assists with four. Charles Pease played 54 minutes between the pipes for Roanoke, picking up the win, while making eight saves.

The Marlins were led in scoring by Nick Pappas and Josh Currier, who tallied three goals each. They were followed in scoring by Tim Gunn and Mike Moran, scoring two goals apiece. Corey Bauer played all 60 minutes in goal and made 22 saves.

Roanoke led in many statistical categories on the afternoon including shots (64-40), face-offs (17-16) and ground balls (54-39). Each team finished with 22 clears, while the Marlins turned the ball over 23 times to the Maroons' 14.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, March 30th as they travel to Ashland to take on Randolph-Macon College in ODAC action. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
